Thanks for the corporate engagement program! Too bad you missed what mattered.


An engagement story:

Frustrated employee

I found out my company was hiring a new position that I am qualified to hold. I informed my boss of my interest. Her immediate response was “Well, you need to have (insert list of skills) for that position”. I begrudgingly let her know that I had utilized those skills for many years. She was my new manager and had little understanding of my past experience. “Great.” she said. “It should be posted in a few days”.

Days passed and no posting.

I heard interviews for the non-posted listing are occurring. I am not saying I deserved the position, but they didn’t even provide me the opportunity to try for it.


The corporate engagement program, survey, and definition of your organization’s purpose mean nothing when engagement is killed at the individual level.
